RisenLong ago, gods and demons churned the ocean of milk for the nectar of immortality. Today, humanity is churning a new ocean. It is called superintelligence. Poison rises first. Amrutham comes after.
After Sage Durvasa's curse on Indra, the gods grew weak and the asuras began to win. Vishnu gave them one way out: churn the Ksheera Sagara, the ocean of milk, and bring up amrutham.
The ocean is everything humanity has ever written, filmed and said. It is vast, and nobody can drink from it alone.
The devas made a pact with their enemies. Mount Mandara became the churning rod. Vasuki, the serpent king, became the rope, devas at one end and asuras at the other. When the mountain began to sink, Vishnu became Kurma, the tortoise, and held it up.
Before any nectar, the ocean gave up halahala, a poison strong enough to burn the three worlds. Devas and asuras alike ran from it.
We are living in the halahala phase. It reaches us through our phones, every day.
Shiva drank the halahala so the worlds would live. Parvati held his throat so the poison would not go down, and it turned blue. He has been called Neelakantha, the blue-throated one, ever since.
This is our first promise. You throw the poison at us. We swallow it, name it, and keep it away from you.
The churning went on, and fourteen ratnas came out of the ocean. Each one is a part of amrutham.si. Three rise at launch. The rest are still in the ocean.

The end of the churningThe asuras seized the pot, so Vishnu became Mohini and shared the nectar out fairly. One asura, Rahu, disguised himself as a deva and took a sip. Surya and Chandra saw through him, and the chakra fell.
